Day 02: Iguazú Waterfalls
Breakfast. Visit to the Argentine side of world famed Iguazú Falls - 275 separate waterfalls that form a horseshoe along the border with Brazil. The falls are mainly surrounded by Iguassu National Park, a tropical forest designated In 1986 by the UNESCO a Natural Heritage of Humanity site. The semicircular waterfall at the heart of this site is some 80 mt high and 2,700 mt in diameter and is situated on a basaltic line spanning the border between Argentina and Brazil. Made up of many cascades producing vast sprays of water, it is the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. The surrounding subtropical rainforest has over 2,000 species of vascular plants and is home to the typical wildlife of the region: tapirs, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, ocelots, jaguars and caimans. Paseo Superior (Upper Path). The path covers 1.1 km round trip. This path has no climbs but it allows visitors to access to the highest footbridges above the main waterfalls. You will enjoy a panoramic view of the falls as well as the delta of the Iguazú River, with its islands filled with lush with vegetation. This path is the one that requires the lowest level of effort of the three main paths. The walk can be easily completed in one hour. Paseo Inferior (Lower Path). This circular path covers 1.2 km in total, and allows you to observe the majority of the falls, from different perspectives: including from the front and down the falls themselves; with wide views or in direct contact with the water. You can even feel the spray from the Bossetti waterfall. These footbridges also allow you to experience the jungle up close. This walk can be completed in two hours, but keep in mind that there are many stairs to climb, the equivalent of 8 floors. Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat). This natural wonder can be reached by the Train of the Falls, arriving to Devil’s Throat Station. From there it is a 1000 mt walk winding through islands, until arriving at the balconies in front of Devil’s Throat. The total duration of this walk is two hours. Ask for the schedule of the last train before heading off. It is an easy walk, without stairs. Overnight (B)
